We Believe in being stubborn

in your quest to heal

Our story - why We began

The Birches Collective was conceptualized from a profound, quiet understanding of what it takes to make it out of the woods and into the clearing. We did not only learn about trauma in a classroom or from reading textbooks; we learned about it in the real world. We know that on the hardest days, the exhaustion sets in, and realizing how many steps are left on the trail can feel overwhelming. In those moments, what is often needed most is someone who will stand beside you, look you in the eye, and encourage you to dig deep and keep moving forward.

That relentless, stubborn hope is the foundation of this practice.

So often, people try one or two standard approaches to counselling, and when they don’t find relief, the heavy thought sets in that they simply cannot be helped. We are here to rewrite that narrative. If a specific therapy didn’t work for you in the past, it does not mean that therapy cannot work for you now. It just means the approach wasn’t the right fit for your wonderfully unique mind or the season you were in.

We did not build The Birches Collective to be anything other than perfectly individual, just like our clients. Because every human being on this planet is different, every person's experiences are different. We believe that clinical care must be tailored to fit the person and their lived experience. While the evidence-based therapies we utilize remain rigorously structured, we adapt our approach and the specific tools we draw from to best support your unique journey.

We are here to normalize the fact that hardship is a part of the human experience, but more importantly, we are here to normalize never giving up on yourself. If you are tired and feeling stuck, we ask you to be stubborn in your quest to find your own clearing.

our core values

Absolute Safety & dignity

For therapy to be effective, you must feel fundamentally safe. Safety means providing a judgement-free sanctuary where your dignity is fiercely protected and where the survival skills that kept you going during dark times are honoured as strength.

bespoke individuality

We believe there is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. We draw from multiple, evidence-based modalities to build a map that honours your specific nervous system, neurobiology, and goals.

accessible excellence (the canopy program)

We believe everyone deserves the opportunity to heal, regardless of their resources. This is why our clinicians reserve space for The Canopy Program, a community initiative ensuring that clients with financial barriers receive the highest-quality, specialized care with absolute dignity.

Meet the guide

Before becoming a Licensed Counselling Therapist (Candidate), I spent six and a half years on the front lines of emergency medicine as a Primary Care Paramedic. I have stood beside people on the worst, most chaotic days of their lives. Those experiences taught me something profound: no matter how dark the woods get or how lost you feel, the human nervous system is remarkably resilient. I bring that same unshakable, grounded calm into the therapy space. Whatever you have experienced, I can hold safe, steady space for your story. You never have to hide the messy parts of your life here.

I built this practice because I intimately understand the struggle of survival. I know how much grit it takes sometimes just to show up, but I also know the profound peace that comes when you finally reach the clearing. My approach is warm, deeply accepting, and judgement-free. We will honour the survival skills that kept you going in the dark, and we will gently build the tools you need to thrive in the light.

Whether we are mapping the woods of your past or building a blueprint for your daily life, I would be honoured to walk beside you.

(Please note: As an LCT-Candidate, my practice is completed under the clinical supervision of Monica Smyth MA, LCT, CCC)
